"Moist heat destroys microorganisms by the irreversible coagulation and denaturation of enzymes and structural proteins. In support of this fact, it has been found that the presence of moisture significantly affects the coagulation temperature of proteins and the temperature at which microorganisms are destroyed." - CDC
Step 1: With gloved hands, my implements are sanitized with soap, water and a scrub brush to ensure removal of all visible debris.
Step 2: All implements are dried with clean paper towels.
Step 3: All implements are properly packaged and sealed inside the correct pouches to be used in the autoclave.
*Notice the difference between the left pouch and right pouch. The left pouch has not been processed in the autoclave yet. The steam indicator has not darkened and the pouch is still straight and flat. The pouch on the right has visibly been saturated with steam and the indicator has changed as it is supposed to.
